Captain Obvious: Chris Matthews Discovers Tea Party "Aren't That Far" from White Supremacist Groups

I've had a few issues with Chris Matthews of late, where his always vacillating political needle seemed lodged in libertarian/conservative land. But he still shows flashes of reasonableness, even if the topic is blindingly obvious. In this case, it's noticing the not-so-very-far-apartness of white supremacist groups and "Tea Party" conservatives. Um yeah, we noticed that.

[Excerpt]
MSNBC’s Chris Matthews: Tea Party Republicans ‘aren’t that far’ from white supremacist groups

MSNBC host Chris Matthews slammed Tea Party Republicans on Tuesday, likening them to white supremacist organizations like the one currently linked to House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA).

“How do you think Louie Gohmert feels toward David Duke?” Matthews askedHuffington Post reporter Sabrina Siddiqui. “How do we know? What do you think of [Ted] Yoho, and that crowd? These guys believe [President Barack Obama] was somehow an illegal immigrant from Africa because they can’t stand the fact that he’s an African-American president. Let’s be honest about it — they’re not that far from the crowd they refuse to associate with. . . .”

  1. Sorry but Mathews is a complete and 100% moron.
Apparently, in his world, you can't be against the president unless you are a racist and that's just moronic.
So, when there is a White GOP president, does that mean that the 90% of the Blacks who don't like the White GOP president, are the Blacks racist?

  2. There is a level of disrespect, and a special focus on WHAT many choose to focus on when criticizing the president that leads one to think that it's more about his race, than his merely being a Democrat. They went after Clinton and Bush, true enough, and it had little to do with race. But they call the First Lady "Moochelle" because why? Because she avails herselves of the very same things every other First Lady has, but for some reason--what reason?--SHE shouldn't be entitled to them. They go out to dinner at a fancy restaurant--as every presidential couple does--but for some reason, that's out of bounds too. Those are just a couple of smaller examples, but the list is long. Think of some ways this president has been disrespected as no other: "You lie!" during the State of the Union. I'm sorry too. I'm a white guy, and I've lived amongst plenty of racists. And with Obama, the "N-word" lies JUST beneath the surface among many, many base Republicans.

  3. Come on Jamie.
When Obama was criticized about going out to dinner, he flew to NYC, shut down the air space, and then caused massive traffic jams.
    And Obama lies.
As far as Michelle is concerned, let's face it, she is starving school kids with asinine school lunch program while she is living high on the hog pigging out on gourmet food.
And I know many Republicans and I have heard the N-word but I also have Blacks say the same thing.
And as far as I am concerned, he is a POS president because he has the ability to do something about the gang violence in Chicago and all the shootings and murders and he says nothing, even when he is in town.
And the last time Obama was in the inner city, when he was not campaigning?

  4. EVERY single president causes airspace and traffic problems wherever they go. Obama's not unique in that regard. And every single first lady has their pet cause. Nutrition for children (in this nation of obese kids) is a good one. I think "pigging out" is a kind of nasty judgement call, and "living high on the hog" and eating gourmet food rather comes with the position. I don't recall anyone paying a speck of attention to what Laura Bush (or Barara Bush) had to eat, or where they ate it, or whether they took advantage of the perks that come with the White House.

There must be a reason for the laser-like focus on these sorts of things, and I think it goes beyond partisan nitpicking. The level of hatred is so out of scale, and I just can't figure another reason. As for crime in Chicagoland, I can't say I keep tabs on it. I'll have to take your word for it.
